[deFrame : reFrame] is an outcome of a research that aims to study the mechanism of arificial intelligence hidden behind Facebook, namely, the alogorithm, as well as to observe and analyse virtual interactions in Facebook’s context which could potentially affect on the transformation of self and identity of the users. The theoretical methodology encompasses a research in psychoanalysis concepts of Jacques Lacan as well as dramaturgy, impression management and framing proposed by Erving Goffman.

The work itself is an interactive time-based media installation portraying the instability and variation of identity in social network boundary by juxtaposition and correlating visual appearance of two main components referring to the realm of physical world where we live and that of virtual territory of Facebook. Those two elements are connected by the third main component functioning as an interface embedded in most websites. Within this particular domain, three sets of proximity sensors attached to web cameras, including the use of computer programing, form a system that represents the artificial mind of Facebook’s algorithm. Visual elements consisting of video images and sculptural objects, were built upon essences extracted from some attributes of the algorithm as well as from activities occured within the virtual communication. The interaction between the audience and the work is a crucial factor affecting on the multiformity and physical characteristics of a group of pixels in the video image that illustrates artificial identity in virtual environment.
